So as Al Shank Insurance celebrates our founding in 1941 what else happened that year?
+1941 3 million cars were manufactured in the US. Only 139 more were made during the rest of World War II.
+A new state called Jefferson was proposed in 1941. It was made up of northern California and southern Oregon. Then Pearl Harbor was attacked and the “Jefferson” movement faded away.
+The first television commercial aired on NBC. It was a Bulova Watch commercial and cost $7 to run.
+The British Intelligent Service gave away Monopoly games to prisoner’s of war held by the Nazis. Hidden inside were real maps, compasses, real money, and other objects useful in escaping.
Meanwhile, I love old pictures of Liberal like this one? They bring back alot of good memories and nostalgia. Times when other people where still around as well as businesses. Liberal was different then. Almost every town had several auto dealerships. Motels were local as the movement toward chains hadn’t really started yet, at least not here. Nor had chain restaurants. So in small town America the food was about as home made as you got…nothing frozen, no microwaves, and no trucks hauling prefinished heat and eat meals to restaurants. I look back on what we ate in those days and the menu was probably a dietician’s nightmare. With all the emphasis on cholesterol, salt, sugar, etc. today it is amazing anyone of made it out of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s alive.
