Al Shank Sez…….No Hole In One…but a Fun Day!
So did I play Saturday? Not a chance! I adhere to the Mark Twain quote, “golf is a good walk spoiled.” I would love to be good at the sport. I grew up on a golf course, and still live on the golf course in the house I grew up in. I played when I was younger, but now haven’t played in years. I think it has to be one of the best mental toughness sports. I admire people that can hit a good shot after a good shot. For me, I admire even more, those that hit a bad shot and can regroup by the very next shot, put the bad shot out of mind and hit a good shot. I’m just not one of them. I hit bad shots throughout the match until close to the end. The last hole or two are usually when my best shots come. I have learned that these best shots are just the “siren of golf” saying……hey, you can do this….it is really easy….come back and play again….you can do it…..and I go back…..and it isn’t really easy……I can’t do it. So I have learned to avoid the “siren of golf” and it’s sweet, beckoning voice and call. I admire those that can do it and make it look easy. I like seeing a good golf shot….I’ll probably just see it from my patio…..beverage in hand…..chilling out.
