Al Shank Sez…..our Two Cents
As Al Shank Insurance enters its’ 80th year, we celebrate one of our insurance company partners, the Travelers Insurance Company. Travelers is the 2nd largest writer of insurance for businesses and the 6th largest writer of insurance for individuals and families in the country. We have represented them since 1942, almost as long as ASI has existed. With operations around the world, the company was formed in 1863 in Hartford, CT and first sold travel accident insurance before branching off into other types of insurance.
In 1864 a local Hartford banker jokingly asked company founder, James Batterson, how much it would cost to insure him from accidental death for the journey from the post office to his home. Batterson replied, “two cents.” The banker paid up and those coins have been kept ever since by the company. Later, accident insurance would be no “joke” for the Travelers as they provided accident insurance for the APOLLO SPACE PROGRAM in the 1960’s. In the early 60’s, Al Shank Sr., our founder, was home sick for the better part of a year. He always said that if weren’t for the support of companies like the Travelers and others Al Shank Insurance might have never made it. The field representatives from Travelers and others would actually go out visit with clients and deliver renewal policies. These were functions that agents normally would do but Al was too sick to be able to do. Those companies really were “partners” in Al Shank Insurance and we remain grateful to them even today.
At Al Shank insurance we’re proud to represent many fine insurance companies and Travelers is one…….well, there you have it…..that’s our “two cents.” Al Shank Insurance…since 1941…Insurance as it should be from people you trust.
