
Al Shank began his insurance career in 1974 with the agency. He is president of the firm and holds the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter and Accredited Adviser in Insurance designations.
Al has been named the Southwest Daily Times Reader’s Choice Favorite Insurance Agent and is an Honorary Insurance Commissioner in Oklahoma. In 2002, he was named The Southwest Daily Times Citizen of the Year. Al is a past president of the Kansas Association of Insurance Agents and has served as Kansas Director on the national board of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America. He is a graduate of Leadership Kansas and Leadership Liberal. Al has chaired the boards of Leadership Liberal, the Southwest Medical Center, International Pancake Day, Liberal Parks and Recreation, the Administrative Board of the First United Methodist Church, the Seward County Republican Central Committee, and the Seward County Community College Foundation. He has been a member of Encompass Insurance Company’s national agents advisory panel, Northstar, and served on the board of directors of the Big I Reinsurance Company, an insurance company designed to offer professional liability insurance to members of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America. He has been a member of the High Plains Heritage Foundation Board and is past president of the Liberal Rotary Club.
Al is a graduate of the University of Kansas and has received the Clodfelter Award from the Alumni Association for service to local alumni. As a member of the University’s 1975 Sun Bowl team he is part of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. He is also was a member of the University of Kansas Alumni Association National Board.
He has authored numerous articles in insurance industry magazines including Agent and Broker, Rough Notes and Kansas Insurance Agent and Broker.
He has three children, Megan Harp, Marc Shank, and Miranda Ruland, as well as five grandchildren, Halle and Georga Harp; Isaac and Scout Ruland, and Rosie Shank.
